Pieter Pourbus and the Forgotten Masters

The sixteenth century does not bear comparison to the fifteenth century when Flemish painting came under the influence of Jan van Eyck, Hans Memling, and Gerard David. That makes the sixteenth century in Bruges somewhat less well-know and therefore less attractive to the general public. One of the aims of the exhibition Pieter Pourbus and the Forgotten Masters in the Groeninge Museum in Bruges is to change that perception by shedding some light on a less vaunted period of art history.
